blankets delivered for 2025

“This donation is going to make a real difference. We reached out to Moti Cares to help because so many people are displaced without food and without blankets. We’re grateful that Moti Cares responded so generously.” – Cleopatra Ntshingila, member of the Anglican Church and Southern Council of Churches
In 2025, the Moti Cares Foundation once again delivered on its promise to spread warmth and compassion during South Africa’s coldest months. Over the course of June and July, the team distributed over 20,000 blankets alongside loaves of bread, staple groceries, and sweet treats to communities and institutions in need.
The initiative stretched across Gauteng, with donations reaching Katlehong, Soweto, Tsakane, Alexandra, Westbury, Riverlea, and many more. It also reached areas further afield, such as flood-affected families in the Eastern Cape left destitute by the natural disaster. Each handover brought hope and dignity to families living hand-to-mouth and to charities battling to meet overwhelming need.
One of the largest activations took place on Mandela Day at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where 3,500 blankets and 2,000 loaves of bread were provided to patients facing a dire shortage of bedding. Other highlights included support for Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Alexandra’s Teddy Foundation, and the 947 winter campaign.
Ultimately, every handover carried the same message of humanity and care, emphasising that no one should face winter alone.
“We can’t control the weather, but we can change how it feels for someone who has nothing to keep them warm. It’s amazing the difference a simple blanket and a fresh loaf of bread can make to those who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Zunaid Moti, founder of Moti Cares.

2024 blanket and food drive
In 2024, the Moti Cares Foundation delivered 20,000 blankets worth over R3 million to some 66 organisations, charities, and communities, making it our largest winter relief effort to date.
What began with handovers in Gauteng quickly expanded to KwaZulu-Natal, where 2,000 blankets were donated to families left homeless after a devastating tornado struck Tongaat in July, forcing many to live in makeshift shelters.
Along the way, other needs were further identified and addressed. At Darul Uloom, Zunaid Moti personally contributed R50,000 for gym equipment after learning that the boys regularly worked out together but lacked proper facilities. At Darul Ihsaan, Moti Cares committed to supplying 50kg of rice and 20kg of dhal every week to support its feeding scheme.
