On Saturday, 28 June 2025, the Moti Cares Foundation extended its Winter Drive to communities in the western region of Johannesburg, providing urgently needed warmth and nourishment to families across Newlands, Newclare, Westbury, and Riverlea.

In the space of just a few hours, the team delivered a total of 3,550 blankets, along with thousands of food parcels, reaching thousands of families. This included 2,200 bags of rice (10kg each), 2,200 bags of pea dhall (5kg each), 2,000 loaves of bread, and 2,000 bags of sweets for bringing joy to the faces of children.

Led by investor, philanthropist, and Moti Cares Foundation founder Zunaid Moti, the handover event was joined by Moti himself, in addition to his family and close friends. From 10am to 4pm, they dedicated the day to personally distributing the donations, marking a full day of connection, heartfelt interactions, and giving back to the community.

“Every blanket and every food parcel we hand out is a reminder that someone cares,” said Moti. “In a time when so many are struggling, we want people to feel hope. This drive sends those in need an important message: ‘I see you, I acknowledge you, I recognise you – and you are not alone.’”

The handover forms part of the Foundation’s larger annual Winter Drive, which will see 20,000 blankets and thousands of food items distributed to vulnerable communities between June and August. Since the beginning of June, 8,550 blankets and loaves of bread have already been donated to residents in need across Gauteng.

Previous handovers have taken place in Katlehong, Langlaagte, Vrededorp, and Soweto. Many of the sites have been selected through a combination of direct public nominations, community leader input, and on-the-ground insights to ensure impact where it’s needed most.

The Moti Cares Foundation has spent years working to restore hope in times of need – from providing over two million food parcels during the 2021 unrest to ongoing winter relief, youth development, and emergency support across the country.

“We can’t solve every problem, but we can show up, do what we can, and lead by example. That’s what this drive is about – meaningful action rooted in care.” Moti concluded.

With each passing weekend, the campaign gains further momentum, fuelled by volunteers, community leaders, and a shared belief in doing good.
